![]() TotalAV antivirus does not only protect your computer from viruses, but it also works to keep you away from all kinds of malware, including ransomware, spyware, and adware threats. ![]() In today’s guide, we will be talking about everything you’ll ever need to know about this antivirus to help you decide whether it’s suitable for you. So you know when you subscribe to TotalAV, you know you’re being protected by the best German-developed antivirus software as well as the best Canadian VPN technology. In fact, TotalAV employs the exact same antivirus technology as the market-leader Avira and the top VPN provider, Windscribe. On top of that, TotalAV’s antivirus engine is even backed by very powerful third-party technology. While TotalAV is not perfect, their useful features and the easy-to-navigate application does have a lot to offer. The reason it is one of the most downloaded antivirus software is simple – their antivirus technology is comparable with big brands, like Norton and McAfee. The antivirus software comes in both free and paid versions offering 22 security tools and 14 security features.įor a new company, TotalAV seems to have a great future ahead with more than 8,000,000 downloads since it started a few years ago. We wouldn’t expect to see much of a performance hit for beefy desktops and laptops, but underpowered budget machines might not be as happy with this suite.TotalAV is a fully-featured antivirus software suite available online that has plenty to offer. Performance is good in a number of areas, but overall it has some improvement to do. TotalAV’s got you covered for the most common forms of malware, but its zero-day chops are concerning. The unarchive time was about a minute faster with TotalAV running, and encoding a large video file with Handbrake was nearly five minutes faster with TotalAV installed. TotalAV also shaved off about 8 seconds from the archiving test. Transferring a large set of files of around 50GB was about a minute faster with TotalAV running. Performance was a little better with our file-transfer test. TotalAV’s drop was not as drastic in the gaming section of the test, nor was the drop too bad during the rendering and visualization portion of the digital content creation test. With TotalAV Antivirus Pro installed, and after running a full system scan, PCMark 10 scored 1,602, a drop of 63 points. Without TotalAV, the test PC scored 1,665. Upgrading to the higher tiers adds a VPN with 32 country locations, and a browser add-on for blocking ads and trackers.įor our in-house performance tests, TotalAV didn’t impress in the PCMark 10 test. Still, to see this in the basic suite is a surprise.Īntivirus Pro’s internet security section (the fingerprint icon) offers protection against malicious websites, as well as a data-breach check. We aren’t huge fans of these utilities since features like this are either already built in to Windows 10 or available for fee. IDGĬlicking on the speedometer icon in the left rail shows all of the various system tune-up options available including an application uninstaller, startup manager, and browser cleanup. Typically, these types of premium features are reserved for the more expensive suites. Features like this are pretty rare on base-level antivirus programs. In our tests, it did a pretty good job of analyzing duplicate files based on their contents. The smart scan is a nice touch beyond typical malware scans, especially the duplicate finder. To access a standard security scan click on the shield icon in the left rail to see options for a full system scan, quick scans, and a customized scan.
